Chinese Astrology for 2018, Year of the Dog

Chinese Astrology
Year of the Dog

*Please note: The Chinese year ends on the first new moon of the following year. For those of you born in January and February please take care when determining your sign.

I have good news! The Chinese New Year, or lunar new year, just began.  So, if you’ve slacked off a bit from those New Year’s Resolutions, no worries!  It’s all been just practice until now…besides, it’s far too cold in January for eating less, or working out more, or waking up earlier, or learning to type, or whatever you committed to on January 1st.  Chinese New Year is on February 16th, 2018 (which marks the new Moon), and the festivities continue until the full Moon 15 days afterward. So let me be one of the first to wish you Gung hay fat choy, or happy Chinese New Year!

What’s in Store for 2018

This year we celebrate the Year of the Earth Dog, and it's a year to reap all that you sowed last year. Now is the time to enjoy the success and satisfaction of all the projects you put into action in 2017. According to the Chinese horoscope, 2018 is a year when hard work pays off! It is an auspicious time for lifestyle changes (both health related and on the home front like a change in residence) and for the start of new business ventures.

Every 60 years in the Chinese calendar, the Year of the Earth Dog is a powerful marker in men and women's lives. We become more idealistic in our views, shedding some materialism by doing charitable acts or otherwise championing some worthy projects. It is a year in which we shift away from the pursuit of the almighty dollar and become a little more reflective. A perfect time to reassess our sense of values, polish up our virtues and go on crusades against tyranny and oppression.

It’s a year of happiness and dissent.  According to Chinese Astrology, the year of the dog brings harmony to home life, patriotism to one's country and unwavering fealty to whatever cause you wish to support. It is a year in which controversial issues will be awarded a hearing and unconventional but effective changes will be introduced. Equality and liberty will be advocated by the Dog's noble influence.

We tend to be more big-hearted than we usually are in the year of the dog. We will become more idealistic in our views, shedding some materialism by doing charitable acts or otherwise championing some worthy projects. It is a year in which we will shift away from the pursuit of the almighty dollar and become a little more reflective. A perfect time to reassess our sense of values, polish up our virtues and go on crusades against tyranny and oppression.

This will also be a year in which we will wish we could relax more without the cynical Dog constantly casting worries on our minds. Then again, perhaps it will be the Dog's ever-watchful eye that will be the main force in keeping this time calm.

Indeed, Chinese Zodiac 2018 energies are dominated by the Earth Element in its Yang form. It's sure to be an eventful year in which you will grow and thrive.

Why am I writing about Chinese Astrology?

About 20 years ago I earned a doctorate in Chinese medicine. I came to love many aspects of the Chinese culture including Chinese astrology.  (I also really do love the idea of starting the New Year with the new moon.) I am an actor, a Leo and a Tiger. http://imdb.me/dianesargent
